Master Changzhi Li – Social and Health Coach
Chairman of the TCFZ, expert in traditional Tai Chi Chuan, internal martial arts, Taoist TCM and Internal Alchemy.
Born in 1977, Master Li has trained in Chinese martial arts since childhood.
He first studied Ziran Men, a style based on reconnecting with the natural combat instincts of the human body and refining them technically. During his university years he trained in Shaolin Kung Fu and deepened his theoretical understanding of Chinese martial arts, which naturally led him to Taoism and Tai Chi Chuan.
Seeing Tai Chi Chuan practised widely in public parks, he initially assumed it to be a kind of senior gymnastics – symbolic movements without practical value for self-defence.
A key encounter with Tai Chi Master Zhao, however, convinced him of the almost magical effectiveness of authentic Tai Chi Chuan.
He then decided to set aside external martial arts and immerse himself fully in the fascinating world of internal martial arts.
His search for the essence of Tai Chi led him to various masters: he first studied the Chen style under Master Zhao, then the Yang style under Master Chui Shiwei, who also taught him profound knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Taoism, the I Ching, internal energy work and their significance within martial arts.
Master Chui also introduced him to his friend Master Shan Ying, with whom Li further deepened his Chen and Wu styles and learned internal styles such as Xingyi and Bagua (martial arts based on the Eight Trigrams of the I Ching).
Li continued his studies of Traditional Chinese Medicine under Master Zu Wen. Later he had the honour of becoming a student of Xu Changhong, one of Beijing’s most renowned martial arts masters.
Traditionally, Chinese masters pass on their art in their spare time until retirement, while earning their living in civilian professions.
Li followed this path as well, building a business career in import–export alongside his martial arts training.
When Li moved to Germany in 2007 for professional reasons, he sought contact with local Tai Chi communities. He quickly noticed the lack of qualified partners and the striking misunderstandings prevalent even among professional Tai Chi instructors.
As a result, he founded his Tai Chi Research Centre (e.V.) in cooperation with highly qualified TCM specialists. Within this framework he offers various traditional Chinese therapies and teaches his extensive knowledge of Tai Chi Chuan in courses and seminars.
He maintains constant contact with his Chinese grandmasters and visits them regularly to further refine his skills and understanding.
